The Internal Security Forces said the Information Branch detained a suspected organizer of counterfeit-gold sales after reports from people in several Mount Lebanon communities.

According to the August 11 statement, investigators learned that another alleged sale was being prepared in Bhamdoun. The ISF said officers detained a suspect and seized 185 coins made to resemble gold sovereigns.

The directorate urged the public to buy gold only from licensed and accredited jewelers that issue stamped invoices, and to be wary of unusually cheap offers promoted by unknown people or online pages.

The account and alleged admissions come from the ISF statement. The investigation was described as continuing, and no final court outcome was announced.
