Lebanon's Internal Security Forces warned that fraudulent SMS messages are being sent to members of the public while falsely claiming to come from the directorate.
According to the ISF statement, the messages tell recipients they were fined for speeding and include an alleged violation number, a date and a reference to the traffic law. They then direct the recipient to an online payment link.
The ISF advised recipients not to open the link and not to enter personal or banking information. Doing so could expose bank accounts and cards to data theft and financial loss, the directorate said.
